s/v Harmony

Harmony is a Westsail 42 Ketch.  The Westsail 42 was designed by W. I. B. Crealock and built by the Westsail Corporation as a 43-foot monohull center-cockpit fiberglass sailing vessel.  The boat was available with either a cutter, ketch or schooner rig.  There were 120 Westsail 42 hulls constructed in the USA from 1974 until the Westsail Corporation went out of business in 1979.
The Westsail Corporation was founded in Costa Mesa California in early 1971 with the sole purpose of designing and building a sailboat that had the ability to cruise anywhere in the world no mater the wind or sea conditions.  Each boat was built on per-order basis and included whatever custom requirements the client wanted.  Westsail vessels were never meant to be stocked by dealerships.
The Westsail 42 joins its iconic sister the Westsail 32 as solid world cruising vessels in the Colin Archer tradition.  The WS42 is a double-ended full length keel sailboat that was designed to be easily handled by a husband and wife on an extended ocean voyage.  The hull was constructed to be extremely rugged and could be considered overbuilt for most coastal sailing experiences.

Harmony was built as hull #91, as was designed with what was called a "charter layout".  The charter layout offered owners the potential of using their vessels as a crewed charter operation because of a 3 cabin arrangement.  However, most owners used the expanded cabin design for increased accommodations.  Beyond a forward v-berth cabin instead of a sail locker, the layout of the rest of the boat is the same.
Many Westsails, both the 32 and the 42, were available as kits.  As a result there are some Westsails that feature non-standard configurations.  However, Harmony was constructed and finished by the factory in Costa Mesa as a custom charter layout.

Below Decks
Harmony features and aft cabin featuring a athwart ship double/queen berth, separate head and sink, and generous storage.  The aft cabin is finished in teak with a tongue and groove oak overhead.  Access to the rest of the boat is through a starboard side walk-through underneath the cockpit with houses a large navigation station.
The engine room is located under the cockpit and features access from the aft cabin and navigation station walk-trough.  There is generous space in the engine room for all equipment with the option of a workbench and tool storage.
Exiting the navigation station walk-through, one enters the galley on the starboard side with a separate sink cabinet, with both a refrigerator and freezer forward of a 3 burner stove and oven.  On the port side is a large raised dinette that seats 4 - 6.  The table can be converted into a double berth.  The fuel and water tanks are housed beneath the galley/dinette area deck.
On the centerline, one steps down into a comfortable salon with generous seating on port and starboard sides.  These berths serve as secure sea-berth while underway.  Above the berths are bookcases and cupboards.  As with the aft cabin, the salon is finished with extensive teak and mahogany.
Just forward of the salon is the forward head which stretches across the full with of the boat.  To port is the sink and vanity and to starboard is the head.  The forward head features a shower, as well.
The v-berth is located forward of the head.  Both the head and v-berth can be closed off with teak doors.
